Can I watch 3D movies without glasses

The 3D revolution, as regards the endorsement of the theme by the entertainment industry and the craving for the same as regard the rich movie freak, has eased out a little over the past few months. This is because although we were all amazed beyond words experiencing television in 3D, we did not quite find the idea of wearing glasses all the while the movie is played. And the sentiment has picked up steam with time, the result being widespread agreement over the fact that manufacturers better come up with something much less cumbersome than this method of adorning 3D glasses. Thankfully, they are listening.

3D TV glasses

There is the word in the air that research and development teams of leading 3D TV manufacturers across the globe are working overtime to conceptualize what they call ‘auto stereoscopy technology.’ One such firm is NEC, and is tipped to be working on screens ranging from as small as 3.1 inches to as large as 12.1 inches. TCL, a Chinese company, has already showcased its version of ‘no glasses required’ three dimensional television set. Their 42 inch display model TD-42F is enjoying acclaim in the Chinese market. The technology is rather ingenious. The television set is equipped with eight different lenses, each of which is functional dependent upon the direction you see the television from. Samsung is also said to be developing a 50 inch display with a particularly wide viewing angle. The amazing part is that the viewer can see the 3D images from any angle, as long as he is in the front of the TV. As of this moment, the entertainment enthusiasts have no option but to wait for the things to take a commercial turn. Also, the shift to auto stereoscopy is suspected to degrade the quality of the 3D imagery, however small the degree of the degradation may be. But then, some would welcome the news that the ‘bit too flashy’ flying effects of 3D would mellow down. The fact that we would get all this sans the cumbersome 3D glasses, in a way, compensates for the trade offs.
